Borneo Highlands Resort Sdn. Bhd.
2,500 Acres
A Development Master Plan for a 500 hectare (1,250 acres) portion of a 2,500 hectare (1,000 acre) site in the Penrissen Highlands, near Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. The resort area is on a logged-over plateau and the master plan concept revolves around several “activity clearings in a jungle”. The plateau overlooks the Indonesian province of East Kalimantan and has a 600 meter drop down to Indonesia. The various villages included a jungle oriented theme park, hotels, commercial village, botanical gardens, residential precincts and an 18-hole golf course. The Hornbill Golf Course was designed by Australian Neil Crafter. Due to the site’s sensitive jungle location strong emphasis was placed upon the environmental implications of developing in a remote forested location and the desire to produce a sustainable development. The golf course was completed in 1997. For: Borneo Highlands Sdn. Bhd. (With Helber Hastert & Fee, Planners in association with AJC Planning Consultants)
